The head of Ferrari’s sports car racing department believes the manufacturer has an “opportunity” to draw on the expertise of its Formula 1 team for the development of its Le Mans Hypercar, which is set to hit the track next spring for a 2023 race debut.
The Italian marque recently declared its commitment to the LMH formula with a program that will deliver Maranello’s first factory involvement at the top level of prototype racing in half a century.
The project will involve staff from different areas of the Ferrari group, according to Antonello Coletta who is the director of the Competizione GT sports car racing division.
Personnel currently working on Ferrari’s GT racing projects will be heavily involved, while members of the Grand Prix team and road car department are also set to contribute their skills and create a link between three hybrid powertrain programs.

LMP2 Cars Slowed Further to Increase Gap to LMH
LMP2 machinery in the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series have been slowed further following a series of technical changes confirmed by the ACO and the FIA Endurance Committee on Thursday.
The adjustments, which will take effect for the start of the WEC season next month in Spa, have been aimed to “ensure the performance windows” of the new-f0r-2021 Le Mans Hypercar class and LMP2 cars following a series of private tests.
A number of competitors, including Signatech Alpine’s Philippe Sinault, had expressed concern over the planned 2021 configuration of LMP2 machinery, which had been lapping close to LMH times in pre-season testing.

BMW M4 GT3 Set for VLN Debut, GTWC Europe Outing
BMW’s M4 GT3 is slated to make its competition debut in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie this summer with additional test races planned in other series, including Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS competition later in the year.
The new-for-2022 GT3 contender, which broke cover last year, has continued an extensive testing and development program and is fresh off a 30-hour endurance test at Almeria in Spain last week with Martin Tomczyk , Jens Klingmann and Nick Yelloly.
Fellow factory drivers Augusto Farfus and Phillip Eng have also gotten extensive mileage in the twin-turbo straight-six-powered BMW, which has completed more than 12,000 kms in testing so far.
