Franco, Balzan Sweep GTWC Weekend in Dramatic Race 2
Manny Franco and Alessandro Balzan claimed a sweep of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS weekend with victory in a dramatic second race at Road America.
Franco overcame a 2.585-second post-race time penalty for a short pit stop to take the win over the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Eric Filgueiras following a late-race drive-through penalty for Madison Snow due to contact with the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 of Ashton Harrison.
It was just one part of a chaotic final ten minutes of the 90-minute contest, which saw the then-leading No. 94 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT3 of Chandler Hull slow on track on the restart with a suspected broken axle.
Hull took the green ahead of the No. 38 ST Racing BMW of Samantha Tan, who dropped back with an unspecified issue, handing the lead to Franco, who cruised to the win.
Tan, meanwhile, rebounded to take the Pro-Am class win alongside Neil Verhagen with a third place overall finish.

Anderson Drives Solo to GT4 Race 2 Win
Zac Anderson got around Kevin Boehm on the final restart of Sunday’s Pirelli GT4 America race to take victory as a solo driver at Road America.
Anderson took his No. 51 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 to a 1.429-second win over Boehm’s No. 92 Random Vandals Racing BMW that was started by Kenton Koch in the second and final GT4 America race of the weekend.
A power-related issue for Anderson’s BMW at the start saw the Silver class championship leader briefly drop back but then reel in the leading pack that was led by the pole-sitting No. 999 Hanley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 of Parker Thompson.
Thompson stretched out into a nearly ten-second lead over the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Kay van Berlo prior to the round of mandatory pit stops, which was interrupted due the No. 09 Zotz Racing Porsche of Eric Zitza in the gravel.
While dashing into the pits prior to the yellow, an issue for the Toyota, in the hands of Hanley, at pit-out, saw the No. 999 car drop behind the then Pro-Am class-leading No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Elias Sabo.
Boehm, meanwhile, assumed the overall lead through the yellow and restart with 13 minutes to go but a move on the inside of Turn 1 put Anderson out front and en route to victory.

Bortolotti Holds Off Feller to Win Lausitzring DTM Thriller
Mirko Bortolotti moved to the lead in the DTM standings with victory in the Sunday race at the Lausitzring by defeating Ricardo Feller in a race-long battle.
Bortolotti’s No. 92 SSR Performance Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 took the checkered flag just 0.353 seconds ahead of the No. 7 ABT Sportsline Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II driven by Feller.
The two drivers started from first and second and maintained those positions for the entirety of the race as Feller sought a way past the Lamborghini.
Despite running within striking distance of Bortolotti almost uninterrupted after the two drivers pitted together halfway through, the Audi driver proved unable to overtake.
As a result, Bortolotti became the first repeat winner of the 2023 campaign after the first nine races of the season produced nine different winners.
The Lamborghini factory driver also assumed the championship lead, his 138 points allowing him to move ahead of previous leader Preining’s 131.
